The short stories included in Unit One revolve around the concept of love; specifically, love's most difficult aspect: the inevitable hurt and heartbreak that come with feeling strongly for another person. The three stories below do not focus on romantic love, however, but familial love. The love between mother and child and the love between siblings are emphasized in the selection of stories, and the narrators of each story struggle to push through the obstacles in their relationships.
